In Southern Ireland, the Leaving Certificate is the equivalent of A-Levels in the UK. My nephew is being denied an opportunity for not specifically have the GCSE but has the above equivalent Your HR process allows for diversity of education and accepts equivalents?

Yes, the Irish Leaving Certificate is accepted as an equivalent to GCSEs for many UK Civil Service roles, depending on the grades and subjects.


Accepted Equivalents to GCSEs (Grade C / Level 4 and above):

  • Irish Leaving Certificate (Higher Level - Subjects passed at Higher Level with a grade C or above (or equivalent) are generally accepted as equivalent to GCSEs at grade C/Level 4, including English Language 


Accepted Equivalents to GCSEs (Grade C / Level 4 and above):

  • Irish Leaving Certificate (Higher Level): Subjects passed at Higher Level with a grade C or above (or equivalent) are generally accepted as equivalent to GCSEs at grade C/Level 4, including English Language 
  • Other accepted equivalents:
