It depends on the role you are applying for..
Most roles have an element of flexi time as part of your package and it would be a question to ask at interview or of the job holder/advertiser during the application process.

Jim is right, most roles have flexi-time as part of your package. If a role has unsociable working hours it will be explicitly stated in the advert and interview, so you shouldn't find yourself working unsociable hours by accident.
However, if it is an interesting role (those with unsociable hours tend to be but there are others), you should follow Jim's advice and ask the contact for more info (e.g. overnight supervision, weekends, always on-call etc).

I understand you're asking about flexible working hours for a compliance caseworker role. When I did that role I was able to work my hours between 7am and 8pm. Majority of the time being between 9am and 5pm as I needed to speak directly to customers or their tax representatives about their affairs. Some general guidance on flexible working arrangements in HMRC, as others have said they can typically vary by role, but common options might include:
- Flexible start and finish times (often called flexitime)
- Compressed hours (working full-time hours over fewer days)
- Part-time working
- Job sharing
- Remote or hybrid working arrangements
For specific details about flexible working options for a compliance caseworker position, I'd recommend:
1. Speak with the vacancy holder ahead on applying
2. Once in post speak with your line manager
3. Review any information provided during your onboarding or in your employment contract, as often during the initial training period you need to attend full time and set hours.
HMRC aims to be an inclusive employer and many departments have policies to support flexible working where operationally viable. Your specific entitlements and options would depend on the operational requirements of your role.
